| The families in
the following
table were selected because they are "landmarks" in angiosperm
evolution,
or because they have great economic importance, or because they are
commonly
grown in lawns and gardens. Clicking on one of the families will
take you to a page of information and links. Biologists recognize
more than 300 families of flowering plants in the world so this list
includes
fewer than 10% of them.
The table has just
20 families
but includes the conserved family names, where they exist, as well as
the
current family names. Clicking on either of the names will take
you
to the page for that family. For example, clicking on Labiatae,
the
conserved name for the Mint Family, will take you to Family Lamiaceae,
the modern name for the family.
