Program Course Schedule

The Ohio State University at Mansfield now offers two options to earn a Master in Social Work Degree...the Regular Part-Time Program Option and now the Part-Time Advanced Standing Alternative Plan (ASAP) Program Option which provides an opportunity to complete the degree in a shorter period of time taking fewer credit hours.

Regular Part-Time MSW Degree Program Option

The Regular Part-Time MSW Degree Program Option is designed to prepare students for entry into advanced social work practice.  This 90-hour program consists of three principal parts: a foundation curriculum which provides the knowledge, values, and skills common to all social work practice; a set of concentration courses in either clinical or social administration practice; and field practicum.  Out of the 90 total credit hours, 51% (46 credit hours) of coursework is required to be Columbus credit.  The field placement can be completed locally but is registered as Columbus credit.

In addition to the MSW degree, students have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as: Aging, Public Policy and Management, School Social Work and minor in African American Studies.

Part-Time Advanced Standing Alternative Plan (ASAP) Program Option

The ASAP program is for students who have recently completed an undergraduate degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program. Admission criteria include an earned undergraduate degree in social work within the past five years, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and proof of their undergraduate field placement. The proof needed is either a copy of the field evaluation or a letter from the field instructor. If the student has been working in the field over two years post graduation, a letter from their current supervisor must be substituted and used as one of the personal references.

This program allows a student to earn a Masters Degree in Social work in only 8 quarters by taking 30 credit hours less than the regular program. Students may take courses in either the clinical or administrative concentration. In addition to the MSW degree, students have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as: Aging, Public Policy and Management, School Social Work and minor in African American Studies.
