Delwin Lindsey teaches Introductory Psychology, and courses in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology at OSU-Mansfield. Dr. Lindsey was born and raised in southern California. He attended Pomona College and received an A.B. degree in physics from that institution in 1971. In 1985, he received a Ph.D. in biopsychology from the University of Chicago. He was a research associate/research assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Washington, from 1986 until 1991. From 1991 until joining the Mansfield faculty, he was a research scientist at the Columbus campus. His principal area of research while a graduate student concerned the perception of color by humans, an area in which he continues to conduct research. Over the years, however, he has authored or co-authored scientific papers concerning a number of diverse aspects of human visual perception including abnormal eye movements in schizophrenia, the molecular genetics of human color vision, the development of vision in human infants, and adult motion perception. Dr. Lindsey's present research is directed toward understanding how humans perceive motion, in particular how the human brain is able to segment a moving object from the background on the basis of the object's motion relative to that of the background.
