UNIVERSITY CHORUS CONCERT DECEMBER 6th

The University Chorus of OSU-Mansfield will present its annual holiday concert free of charge at four o'clock on Sunday afternoon, December 6, in the Conard Performance Space of Riedl Hall.  A combination of pieces from  Judeo-Christian traditions spanning from the twelfth century to modern times will be presented.  Of particular note will be several pieces reflecting various traditions surrounding St. Nicholas, whose traditional feast day is December 6.  Little factual information is available about the fourth-century bishop of Asia Minor, but different legends attest to his generosity and concern for the poor.  The male voices of the chorus will also sing the American premiere of Dan MacDonald's "Christmas in the Trenches," which recounts the now famous informal truce on Christmas Eve between German and allied troops in 1914. Among other composers represented on the program will be Chilcott, DeCormier, Victoria, Mathias, Chapman, and Manuel. The chorus is directed by David Tovey, Associate Professor of Music.

More instinctive than intellectual, more about the paint than the why,

more about the feeling than the thought,

two very competent artists approach figure painting from a primal place deep inside and provoke dialogue about the complexity of paint as skin.

  • PowerAde
  • Water
  • Apple juice
  • Sprite
  • Tea packets
  • Sugar packets

ABOUT VACCINES:

SEASONAL FLU VACCINE:  WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

Seasonal flu vaccine is the vaccine offered every year in the fall.  It covers you against three commons types of influenza.  These types are chosen each year as those most likely to infect our community during the flu season (December to March). This vaccine does not give protection against H1N1 flu.  Since H1N1 is a "novel" or new virus, it could not be included in the Seasonal vaccine.

So, why get the seasonal vaccine?

With H1N1 influenza going around, it is important to be immune to the more common types of influenza for two reasons.

  1. Not knowing how much H1N1 flu may be here in the winter months, it will help all of us if we can keep seasonal flu illness low.
  2. Influenza virus is a very good at changing into new forms.  It is possible that H1N1 could combine with one of the seasonal types and become more dangerous.  That combination could occur if a person is wick with H1N1 and a seasonal type at the same time.

H1N1 VACCINE:

A vaccine against the H1N1 influenza strain is expected to come in the late fall, hopefully in October or November.  See the following link for schedule for the flu vaccines.
