Program Overview

The Integrated Teaching and Learning program holds as its mission the preparation of professionals who are broadly concerned with multidisciplinary approaches to education, and bringing to bear such approaches on problems of teaching and learning for diverse populations of students.

Our constituencies include beginning and experienced early and middle childhood regular classroom teachers who employ integrated curricula and "specialist" teachers who work in integrated ways across subject matters with regular classroom teachers.

This program area is centrally defined by a focus on issues related to integration. Common values for the program include "child-centered" and developmental approaches, holistic teaching, social construction of classroom learning, diversity, inquiry, and informal and experience-based approaches to curriculum.

The ITL program is located on five campuses -- the Columbus campus and four regional campuses (Lima, Marion, Mansfield and Newark). Students apply to one campus but may take courses and work with faculty on any campus. The Mansfield campus has an undergraduate education major (BSEd), Master in Education (MEd) and Master of Arts (MA) programs.

Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers: Meeting the ISTE Challenge

The education program at The Ohio State University-Mansfield has been named one of six Distinguished Achievement Award winners of the International Society for Technology in Education.

The award recognizes institutions that have exhibited exemplary models of integration on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers into their teacher education programs.
