Many of you that have been trying to use HomeNet for Internet access have been experiencing problems logging on, this was due to the new installation of a new router. Technology Services installed this new router in order to improve the Internet connection speed from your homes. HomeNet is operational and with added capacity to handle up to 23 users at one time. The old router was only setup to handle 6 users at one time. You should not have to change any settings on your computers to access HomeNet through the new router.
The new HomeNet system has a few advancements in how it
operates that may cause you not to login to the system. The first is
there is no longer a need for a script file to assist in the login
process. If you are currently using a script it must be removed for
you to be able to login.
The second issue is a setting. You need to turn off "enable
encrypted passwords" if you have that enabled. You can check for this
by right clicking on your dial up icon for HomeNet and going to
properties. The setting is found under the "Server Types" menu tab.
Please note that there are many versions of windows95/98 out there
and this may not work 100% for all of them.
If you have already corrected the two problems above the
final one deals with your username and password. This only affects
faculty and staff that had at one time used a MAGNUS email account.
Try replacing your current username (ferguson.110) with your old
MAGNUS username (jferguso). You will want to use the same password
you had for your current username (ferguson.110).
These steps should clear up the problems with getting logged
into HeomNet.
Thank You,
John Ferguson
