The Teacher Academy at OSU
Mansfield was designed as a model for science workshops for elementary
teachers. There were several unique features:
-
teachers were enrolled as teams
from each participating school
-
two science professors (chemistry
and plant biology) teamed with two education professors (science methods
and educational technology) to design and teach the curriculum
-
science technology was broadly
defined to include microscopes, balances, flexcams, even plant presses
as well as computers
-
after the courses were completed,
faculty visited the schools to assist in implementing the teacher-designed
science units
